History of Lushmeadows
The Lushmeadows Ranch Barns were built by the Preston Foundation of Los Angeles in 1943. The plan was to have a mountain dairy and milking barn and sell "exotic milk" in Los Angeles. It did not happen. The Barns were then sold to a judge and two lawyers out of Los Angeles who used it as a playground. Decker Enterprises purchased the Barns a short time later and planted a large apple orchard. They planted three varieties of apples: Jonathans, Yellow Delicious and Red Delicious. These apples were used for a wonderful tasting mixture of apple juice and sold under the name of Lushmeadows Mountain Grown Apple Juice.
Our Lakes
Lushmeadows Estates has two beautiful private lakes within the neighborhood - Dawn and Mallard Lakes. They are both available for the enjoyment of members and their guests. Dry hydrants are installed at both lakes to give fire fighters a quick and easy access to a large supply of water.
Dawn Lake
Dawn Lake is located off Clouds Rest and Sierra Pines Drive. Surrounded by pine and oak trees, Dawn Lake is the home to many birds. One can see bluebirds, killdeer, grebes, coots, Canadian geese, great blue herons, little green herons, ring neck ducks, and many more. A winding trail loops around the entire lake. There are 8 campsites, bathrooms, an outdoor shower, picnic tables, an enclosed playground, BBQ stands, a swimming beach, and a raft. Fishing is available, and no license is required. The cost for camping is $20 per night for guests of members, and free for members. A reservation is recommended for large groups.
Mallard Lake
Mallard Lake is located next to the Clubhouse, near the entrance to Lushmeadows. Picnic tables are available next to the Clubhouse. No license is required for fishing at Mallard Lake. Both lakes are accessible for walking in, but a gate key is required to drive up to the lakes. There is a lost key replacement fee of $25.
We request that you do not feed the wildlife, especially ducks, at the lake. It reduces their ability to care for themselves, and causes them to lose their natural fear of humans. Feeding big game mammals such as deer and bears is illegal in California.
Our Clubhouse
The Lushmeadows Clubhouse is the meeting place for many Association functions. There are 2 bathrooms and a kitchen that can support large group activities, such as wedding receptions or meetings. Members may check out books at the small library corner and bingo is available. The clubhouse is wheelchair accessible. The clubhouse is also available to members for rental for $150 day with a $50 refundable cleaning deposit. The entrance gate key to the Clubhouse/Mallard Lake property is available for members. There is a $25 lost key replacement fee.
The Clubhouse was built by the original developer of Lushmeadows Mountain Estates, Decker Enterprises in 1962. It was a one room building with a fireplace and 2 bathrooms. The last remodeling was completed in March 1994.
The Clubhouse is conveniently located near the entrance to Lushmeadows. Look for the beautiful daffodils blooming in the spring! Mallard Lake is directly behind the Clubhouse.
